Wisdom teeth can be extracted before or after they begin to emerge in the mouth. Prior to eruption, the position of wisdom teeth is assessed using panoramic X-rays. Extraction is recommended if the teeth are predicted to be impacted, misaligned, or pose a risk of complications. After the wisdom teeth have partially emerged or fully erupted, patients can undergo extraction. It is advisable to extract wisdom teeth before they become inflamed. If there is pain, swelling, or inflammation, the dentist may prescribe medication before the extraction.
The fear and anxiety regarding wisdom tooth extraction are common concerns.
